Died of illness on Tuesday 9th March 1943

Born 11th July 1916 [Newmarket 3b:781] to Samuel William and Jessie Susannah EDGLEY (née SNOWDEN) of 4 Semper Cottages, Newmarket.

In the 1939 register he was a gas works labourer with his parents Sam [11-2-1877] a cow man, Jessie [4-7-1878] at 4 Jarvis' Yard, Mill Hill, Newmarket. (same address as 4 Semper Cottages).

An ironmonger's yardman before the war, his death, at home, was from Pulmonary Tuberculosis.


His elder brother Alfred died later in 1943, in Burma, a prisoner of the Japanese. see here .

His uncle William SNOWDEN of Exning died in the Great War see here




It is not known when Leonard's illness started and if this perhaps saved him from going to Singapore with his unit.




Leonard is buried in Newmarket Cemetery- Ref:V:430
